FAQ: FAQ

WHERE ARE YOU DOING YOUR APPRENTICESHIP?

I'm learning and working out of Studio Maxx in St. John's

WHAT ARE YOUR RATES? AND WHAT IS APPRENTICE PRICING?

While I'm learning, I'm charging half of the shop rate. So when I post a design, or when I get a design request, I ask my mentors what they would charge for the design, then charge roughly half of that. As I learn more and get better, prices will increase, so if I quoted something months ago, it doesn't necessarily apply any more.
For bigger pieces, price may be more dependent on an hourly rate.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GETTING TATTOOED BY AN APPRENTICE AND AN EXPERIENCED ARTIST?

Your overall experience won't differ too much. I only take on pieces that I feel confident doing, so you won't end up with a jacked tattoo.
Other artists might pop into the room from time to time to make sure things are going well or to check if I have any questions.
The biggest difference is that it will take a lot longer for me to do the same work as other artists, so please be patient! If you're not used to long sessions, please communicate that with me and we can work something out!

HOW DO I APPROACH MAKING A DESIGN REQUEST?

You might not know exactly what you want for your tattoo, and that's fine! If you have a general idea for content and placement, book in for a consultation (they're free!) and we can discuss more in person.
If you have an exact idea of what you want and you're looking for a price quote, please include approximate size (inches, hand sized, palm sized, etc.), placement on the body, and the style you're looking for (black and grey, colour, realism, etc).
This will help me be able to price the piece more accurately.

WHAT IF I WANT A CUSTOM DRAWING DONE?

If you have an idea for a tattoo but don't have a reference of exactly what you want, then I can design a custom piece for you.
In order to have a design drawn up, a drawing deposit is required. The cost can depend on the size of the design, but it comes off the price of the tattoo once it's done. Once the drawing is done, changes and alterations can be made, but the deposit is non-refundable if you change your mind -- so make sure you know what you're aiming to get, and you're set on the idea.

SO, I KNOW WHAT I WANT - HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?

Drop on down to the shop to book an appointment! In order to hold an appointment time, a deposit is required. The deposit will come off the price of the tattoo once it's finished. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you must call or talk to someone in person with at least 24 hours notice before your appointment. Email or Facebook cancellations will not be accepted as valid.

ANYTHING I SHOULD DO TO PREPARE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT?

Don't drink the night before. Make sure you're showered and appropriately dressed for where the tattoo will need to go.
If you know it's going to be a longer session, bring some water, juice or snacks to hold you over. Feel free to bring a friend who can run and get you coffee if need be, but don't bring an entourage!
Tattoos are cash only at the shop so take out money beforehand, or you can use our ATM in shop.
There is metered parking with a two hour limit until 6 on weekdays in front of our building, so bring change and let me know if you gotta stop and feed that meter!

GOT THE TATTOO! HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF IT?

Most likely I will have given you a second Saniderm bandage to take home and change over. After 24 hours of getting your tattoo, take off the bandage I put on you at the shop. Wash your hands, wash off any buildup on the tattoo and allow the area to dry for a couple minutes. Don't leave the bandage off for more than 30 minutes, otherwise you can't apply the second bandage.

Apply the second bandage and leave it on for a week and leave it alone. It's fine to shower with, but don't soak it in water.

Once the week is up, take off the second bandage, clean up again and you're good to go!

You can keep the area moisturized over the next couple days as it finishes healing completely. After 10-12 days, you should be fully healed.

If you didn't use the saniderm bandage, please refer to the aftercare procedure on the Studio Maxx website.
